Occupational Summary
Compile, analyze and report on the financial performance of department.

Work Performed

Monitor effort reporting and work with RASR on iform changes for research faculty and staff. Prepare monthly and ad hoc reports on metrics for effort for the Director and Chair.

Create and analyze monthly financial statements by reviewing accounting data and provide reports of results; monitor and report on financial performance and recommend corrective actions based on analysis. Prepare JVs as needed.

Serve as Departmental Approver for all expense transaction work flows, buy at duke carts and AP check requests. Analyze and ensure compliance with appropriate GL accounts and GAPs.

Manage the FAM process (Financial Assessment and Management) for transaction validation monthly. Participate in the analysis of risk and materiality for financial transactions. Ensure supporting documentation is accurate and validate the recorded transactions in accordance with prescribed procedures. Investigate errors to resolution.

Review trends and report on positive and adverse outcomes. Perform monthly close out accounting procedures within the department. Work with the senior business manager to ensure proper procedures are accomplished regarding fund code balance analysis, expense and revenue management, reconciliation of accounts, etc.

Work with the senior business manager and appropriate personnel to assist in compiling the annual budget for the School of Medicine.

Assist with year- end closing activities, recording expenditures in the correct fiscal year and meeting all processing deadlines. Make recommendations to improve financial systems; perform in-house audits of operating units.

Develop annual and five-year capital replacement analyses with the senior business manager; monitor capital plans and advise of compliance or changes. Participate in formulating and refining short and long-term financial goals for the department. Assist with development of new business proposals including budget preparations, project specifications, capital investments, pricing structures and marketing strategies.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
