Overview

The Server Administrator I is responsible for all functions associated with the support and maintenance of the server environment as directed by Assistant Director of Server Administration. Microsoft platforms may include Active Directory and Exchange as well as Windows servers of various flavors.

Responsibilities

The Server Administrator I will be responsible for supporting the Department of University Technology Services within the server environmnet as well as the duties and tasks listed below:

  • Provide Microsoft Windows Server operating system and VMware support.
  • Monitor server performance and availability.
  • Address operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts and installing applications.
  • Promote and maintain server patch management practices.
  • Support and maintain Active Directory.
  • Knowledge and support of Group policy.
  • Provide Windows Exchange Email Server support.
  • Upgrade and replace server hardware where appropriate.
  • Provide support to Technical Service Technicians as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable in basic Microsoft Server administration.
  • Assist with server hardware configurations.
  • Ability to work well with a team of experienced professionals.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel overnight when needed.
  • Any additional tasks and duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Any related Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Two to five years of experience in a professional IT environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MCTS/MCP Certification or progress towards MCITP certification a plus.
