Director of Assessment & Evaluation
The director of assessment and evaluation ensures an integrated, disciplined process of defining important learning outcomes, measuring student performance, and using the information to shape decisions that improve academic programs and student learning. The director guides university assessment and improvement efforts that meet fully the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation and provides accreditation documents and reports.
A self-directed, motivated leader, the director of assessment and evaluation builds and maintains a culture of evidence at Saint Leo that leads to meaningful improvements, develops collaborative relationships with faculty members and other university stakeholders that strengthen the use of student learning data in making decisions, and leads time-limited projects and participates in projects as a member of a collaborative team.
The Director of Assessment & Evaluation will be responsible in assisting the Department of Institutional Effectiveness by guiding university assessment and improving efforts that fully meet the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation.The Director of Assessment & Evaluations will be responsible for
- Collaborate with faculty members, chairs, deans, and other stakeholders to design, launch, and maintain assessments of student learning. This includes supporting the development of learning goals and measures, creation of curricular and program maps, and the creation of assessment instruments (e.g., rubrics).
- Develop appropriate assessment strategies in consultation with faculty, department chairs, directors, and deans.
- Identify, construct, or manage construction of appropriate assessment devices.
- Plan, organize, direct, and implement an ongoing program of Academic Program Reviews.
- Research and author accreditation documents and reports related to assessment of student learning and academic program effectiveness.
- Create and implement a strategic plan for assessment, and provide regular reporting on progress towards achieving goals and objectives.
- Strong organizational and planning skills required to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrate project leadership in a collaborative team environment that includes administrators and faculty.
- Exhibit effective interpersonal communication skills that facilitate productive work relationships within and between departments and offices.
- Demonstrate strong skills in statistical analysis and use of related software (e.g., SPSS, Tableau).
- Demonstrate skills in making interactive, audience-driven presentations to small and large groups.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, especially in written communication of analytical findings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, chairs, deans, and executive-level administrators.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse project team in a manner that achieves agreed upon results while upholding the university's core values.
- Serve on select University Senate committees.
- Terminal degree that includes a strong foundation in coursework related to assessment of learning and research.
- At least three years in successfully conducting assessments in higher education.
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative assessment and evaluation strategies and methods.
- Knowledge of SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation.
- Direct experience with assessment of student learning.
