Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, the Development Officer is responsible for establishing and managing prospect and donor relationships with alumni, alumni family members, parents, friends and related organizations through cultivation, direct communication, solicitation, and stewardship to meet fundraising goals in furtherance of the mission and goals of the university.

- Manage assigned pool of 75 active donor/prospects, travel extensively and maintain an average of 4-6 personal visits per week.
- Execute a minimum of 25-30 touches per week, including exploratory phone calls, emails, and handwritten notes.
- Plan and execute cultivation and solicitation strategies including proposals and correspondence to successfully secure philanthropic commitments for funding priorities including sustained giving, capital/endowment, and planned giving.
- Steward donors to enhance relationships, ensuring donors are aware of the impact of their gifts and remain involved with the university.
- Identify, recruit and work effectively with leadership volunteers to expand and strengthen major and planned giving efforts.
- Collaborate with colleagues and superiors in mutual support of departmental and divisional solicitations.
- Collaborate with members of the university community outside of division and department, and the community outside of the university, to enlist individuals to provide assistance in building purposeful relationship with donors and prospects.
- Document constituent interactions and resulting additions/correction in the prospect management database and research files on a timely basis; update personal knowledge of the operation and updating of this system as necessary to accomplish these.
- Represent the university at select community activities and events; participate in university events as appropriate.
- Travel regionally and nationally as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Development.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to solicit major gifts from individuals.
- Proven track record of success in achieving goals and fundraising metrics.
- Knowledge of development/fundraising concepts and techniques.
- Knowledge of gift planning and procedures.
- Ability to manage extensive travel, to prioritize work and to manage time.
- Superior interpersonal/human relations skills.
- Enthusiastic commitment to advancing this University's mission along with a high level of energy and initiative.
- Effective writing skills.
- Effective listening and communications skills to build relationships with individuals as well as small and large groups.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with donors, volunteers, and development staff.
- Self-starter; ability to work independently.
- Proficiency with relationship database software (The Raiser's Edge preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Valid driver's license.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- 7 to 10 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
- A minimum of five years of successful major gift fundraising.
- Ability to travel extensively and efficiently.
