Job Summary:



The successful candidate will be working in cancer biology. The PRA will perform a range of molecular and cellular biology experiments including PCR, qPCR, RNA work, immunostaining, western blotting, ELISA and flow cytometry. The PRA will manage mouse colonies and conduct necropsies, drug treatments and surgeries such as grafting of human skin or 3D skin equivalents on immunocompromised mice.

Experience in basic laboratory techniques, handling of human or mouse tissues, immunohistochemistry (IHC)/immunofluorescence (IF), and brightfield/fluorescence microscopy is required.

The PRA for this position needs to be detail-oriented, very well-organized, able to work independently and in a team environment, capable of following strict standard operating procedures for routine assays, and capable of developing new assays. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are expected.

Examples of Work Performed:


  • The successful candidate is expected to perform molecular and cellular biology experiments, including but not limited to DNA and RNA preparation, PCR, qPCR
  • Tissue preparation for paraffin embedding, sectioning, IF and IHC staining and microscopy
  • Mammalian tissue culture, flow cytometry and western blotting
  • Mouse husbandry, necropsy, colony management and mouse grafting surgery
  • Maintaining meticulous laboratory records, supplies, and sample records
  • The day-to-day operation of the lab, including but not limited to ordering supplies, inventories, preparing solutions, etc.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of cancer biology
  • Strong background in molecular and cellular biology including RNA/DNA/Protein isolation techniques, western blotting, gene expression assays (qPCR and RT-qPCR)
  • Proficient with mammalian tissue culture techniques
  • Proficient with mouse husbandry, understanding of mouse genetics and familiarity with mouse surgery
  • Proficient with immunostaining assays including IHC, ICC and IF
  • Competence with basic computer software
  • Highly motivated, eager to learn and takes initiative
  • Great organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting
  • Excellent record keeping abilities and good handwriting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills.



Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S degree in Biology or related fields
  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in mouse work
  • Proficient with mammalian tissue culture
  • Proficient in immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's in Biology or related fields
  • Two years of laboratory experience
  • Two years of experience with mouse work (husbandry and surgery techniques)
  • Extensive experience with mammalian tissue culture and molecular and cellular biology techniques including RNA work and immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence
