ASL Interpreter - Accessibility Services

Position Category: Staff - Part-Time (Variable Hour)

Responsible for providing ASL interpretation/ transliteration communication access services for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Schedule will vary each semester according to student needs and interpreter availability. May include nights and/or weekends.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent, and must hold current interpreter certification (state or national).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct, policies and procedures in a post-secondary environment, interpreting post-secondary educational classes and federal and state disability and confidentiality laws (ADA, Section 504, FERPA, etc.).

Skills in American Sign Language interpreting and transliteration, time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Ability to work in a team environment and maintain professional behavior at all times.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to to those with National Interpreter Certification (RID NIC) and/or Utah Professional level.
Preference will also be given to those who have completed an accredited Interpreter Training Program (ITP).
Preference will be given to those skilled in Signed Exact English and/or Cued Speech Transliteration.

Physical Requirements:
Continuous ability to interpret American Sign Language while standing or sitting; Walking between classes.

Benefits Summary:
You may be eligible for a 3 credit hour or 1 class tuition waiver after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 475 hours worked. Dependents do not qualify for a waiver.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: DOQ based on certification, education and/or experience
