Systems Administrator - Virtual Desktop/Applications

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Utah Valley University is hiring a System Administrator to manage the performance of Citrix and other virtual systems, networks, and applications to ensure high levels of availability and security for the supported university applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure Citrix, and other assigned systems, provisioning and maintenance is consistent with the university's goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This position also performs other systems administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field plus three years of work experience in IT or a combination of education and experience in a related field totaling seven years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and experience with administrating the development, direction, and implementation of Citrix services including XenApp, XenDesktop, and PVS.
  • Knowledge of hypervisors including XenServer and Acropolis AHV.
    Knowledge and experience with hyper-convergence appliances such as Nutanix, Vsan, Simplivity, etc.
  • Knowledge in server and OS administration, including Windows Server 2012, 2016, and Windows 10.
  • Knowledge of networking infrastructures, including LAN, WAN, VPN, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of software quality assurance best practices.
  • Knowledge of Industry Standard Methods and Best Practices in Systems Administration of virtual infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, operating systems, and systems level services.
    *Knowledge of storage infrastructure, systems, and interfaces.
    *Knowledge of multiple-tier application architecture.
    *Knowledge of security, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Knowledge of networking, TCP/IP, and load balancing.
  • Knowledge of databases and various scripting languages for systems automation.
  • Skills in problem-solving, analysis, ingenuity, and research.
  • Skills in organization, planning, prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Skills in communication, training, mentoring, customer service, and interpersonal relations.
  • Skills in scripting, documentation, and use of Office applications.
  • Skills in project management, strategic planning, personnel management, and performance management.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documentation, and to present technical concepts in layman’s terms verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow complex and detailed procedures, and think logically to resolve issues and problems.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively without direct supervision.
  • Strong ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technology.
  • Ability to apply organizational goals to daily work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:
May require occasional lifting, handling, pushing, or moving objects up to 50 lbs.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

May require some travel for training and to set up systems at off-campus locations.
Work schedule
Regular work hours 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Provide on-call technical support.

Pay Range: $56,137 - $72,176 DOE
