Adjunct Instructor - Modern Dance

Position Category: Faculty - Adjunct (Variable Hour)

The Modern Dance Adjunct, teaches courses in one or more of the following areas: all levels of Modern Technique and Theory, Composition, Improvisation, Dance As An ArtForm, Dance Conditioning, or other somatic practices. Plans, prepares and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials, evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests; maintains a student-oriented approach to teaching, submits student grades and all requested departmental materials in a timely manner. Attends mandatory adjunct meetings.

Required Qualifications:
A high school diploma with teaching and/or professional experience in modern dance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content of courses taught in Modern Technique and Theory
  • Knowledge of best practices in instructional strategies and techniques
  • Knowledge of current trends in education
  • Skill in choreography and performance
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a BS, BA, BFA and teaching experience, or MFA and graduate teaching experience. Evidence of teaching excellence and expertise in Modern technique and theory, Composition, Improvisation.

Physical Requirements:
Seeing: to observe dancers and written materials
Sitting: to sit on floor or in chair
Ability to move equipment and supplies and to set-up and take down for performances.
Reaching: to move supplies and equipment, perform dance movements
Dancing: to demonstrate appropriate skills/techniques
