Posting Information:

Lead the planning and delivery of innovative outreach, web content, and instruction to the university community, with an emphasis on scholarly production issues such as open access and copyright. In addition, coordinate general distance education services such as creation of video tutorials, maintenance of the library’s presence at the Biltmore Park instructional site, the course management software (Blackboard) and the Campus Online Portal (MyWCU). Develop outreach related to current events, such as the campus theme and student and faculty research. Outreach efforts include, but are not limited to, workshops, programs, events, and exhibits; marketing and publicity materials; social media; and research guides and tutorials. Create partnerships with other campus entities such as student services and may perform outreach to under-served campus and community groups including transfer, military, and international students. All RIS librarians at Hunter Library provide interdisciplinary, high-quality research assistance and library instruction during weekdays, evenings, and weekends. RIS librarians also participate—both on campus and at other instructional sites—in an active information literacy program; collaborate with colleagues in library-wide decision-making and initiatives; and participate in collection development. The librarian will assume primary responsibility for the promotion and delivery of library instruction and services in one discipline such as Criminal Justice or Parks and Recreation. Assume responsibility for additional duties, projects, assignments, and initiatives as needed or assigned.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

MLS from an ALA-accredited or international equivalent program of library or information science 
Experience performing successful outreach in libraries or other settings 
Basic knowledge of scholarly communication issues, including institutional repositories; traditional and alternate scholarly publishing models; copyright , fair use, and author’s rights; and data management 
Demonstrated knowledge of general reference sources and a desire to offer reference in all subject areas 
Demonstrated passion for supporting students and faculty 
Strong collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills 
Initiative and ability to work productively, both independently and as a part of a team Time management and organizational skills to balance a varied workload, including scholarship and service 
Flexibility to adapt and respond to the ever-changing landscape of information services in an academic library

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in synchronous and asynchronous information literacy instruction 
Experience creating and maintaining online tutorials 
One year of reference experience in an academic library or in a large public library Knowledge of or interest in learning about criminal justice, emergency management, or parks and recreation 
Familiarity with current trends in library technology and electronic resources along with the ability to apply this knowledge to a local situation 
Demonstrated understanding of principles and best practices of information literacy instruction 
Experience planning successful and innovative programming in libraries or other settings
