Arboretum Program Coordinator

Job Summary: Haverford College seeks to hire a  part-time (30 hours per week), non-exempt, benefits-eligible Arboretum Program Coordinator to build relationships, conduct a variety of outreach activities, and recruit and retain members and volunteers.

Essential Functions & Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Arboretum Executive Committee
  • Research and conduct a variety of outreach activities: Events, trips, classes, lectures
  • Increase and preserve arboretum membership
  • Recruit and support arboretum volunteers
  • Coordinate student arboretum office workers
  • Maintain arboretum website
  • Prepares, produces and distributes Arboretum publications
  • Assist in maintaining historical integrity of the arboretum
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in horticulture or related field, or minimum of three years of experience in horticulture and public relations
  • Excellent communication skills, to include writing for the purposes of public relations
  • Proficient knowledge of woody and herbaceous plants
  • Exceptional organization, and the ability to multi-task between various projects.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of valid drivers’ license, and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, PA Act 153 child abuse clearances
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for job related business

  • Walking (to move entire body in erect position): Three to six hours
  • Standing (to maintain body in erect posture in stationary position): Up to three hours
  • Sitting (to rest weight on buttocks and back of thighs with legs bent at knees): Six to eight hours
  • Crouching/Stooping (to bend upper body forward while fully flexing knees): Never
  • Kneeling (to maintain upper body in erect position while resting knees on ground): Never
  • Climbing (to ascend or descent heights using ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, inclined surfaces): Never
  • Twisting (to rotate upper body while feet remain stationary): Never
  • Driving (operating a motor vehicle, crane, tractor, forklift, etc.): Up to three hours
  • Exposure Limitation (i.e., cold water, dust, gas, fumes, extreme temperatures): Three to six  hours
