Job Description Summary

Provides oversight of lab activities of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography ( DMS ) Program. Schedules open lab rotations and provides advisement and counseling to DMS students. Responsible for overseeing the operations of the DMS scan and Patient Care labs. Ensures the quality of the student and staff educational lab experience.



Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides technical support for lab equipment, troubleshoots problems, and ensure the safe operation of ultrasound systems, EKG units, PVR units, wheel chairs, stretchers, hospital beds, IV poles, and O2 tanks

• Schedules DMS student open lab rotations and identifies trends to optimize utilization of lab monitors, subject specialty tutors, and open lab hours

• Maintains documentation of lab equipment malfunctions in the lab equipment log and recommends replacement

• Advises and counsels students on proper documentation techniques and provides feedback to students

• Reinforces the instruction provided by faculty by utilizing a variety of learning modalities in the labs

• Establishes an effective record-keeping system to ensure program and students meet and maintain accreditation standards

• Responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, systems testing, upgrades, and installation of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS); and assists students and faculty with its operation and image retrieval functions

• Maintains and updates the equipment for seamless integration with the PACS

• Updates and modifies Safety Manual as needed and communicates changes to all Program personnel

• Maintains current MSDS listing of all chemical substances used in the DMS and Patient Care labs

• Coordinates laundry and stocking services

• Assists in the development of policies related to the DMS program

• Assists in recruitment and marketing activities for the program

• Provides formal DMS instruction each semester

• Assists with student instruction in various DMS labs as needed

• Performs other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

• Bachelor's degree

• Current active ARDMS registry in one of the following: abdomen, adult echo, OB/Gyn, or vascular technology

• Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience as a sonographer with experience in trouble shooting and maintaining medical equipment used for imaging, medical-testing and patient transporting

• Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team

• Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Possess working knowledge of Apple's operating system for computers required to administer PACS

• Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

• Possess familiarity and proficiency using basic hand tools to make equipment repairs and adjustments

• Works accurately with great attention to detail

• Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

• Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, faculty, and colleagues at all levels throughout the College

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

• Current active ARDMS registry in more than one specialty

• Demonstrated experience as a clinical site instructor or didactic instructor for a sonography program

• Demonstrated experience communicating with biomedical equipment technician and/or equipment service personnel



Work Schedule

Mostly day time, but work schedule will vary to accommodate students in the day and evening sections of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
