The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to function as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

This position will improve the capacity of the clinical practice, provide enhanced monitoring of clinically complex patients and contribute to excellence in patient care and patient satisfaction.

Duties for this position include direct patient care, patient and family education, support to fast track and physician in the triage system, as well as serving as a critical member of the clinical care team.

This includes: obtaining patient health histories, reviewing outside records and performing complete physical examinations, as well as documenting findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.

In addition, this position orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, and performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
Patient education will also be an essential function, and this position will be required to explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of therapy to patients, patient's family, staff, and healthcare learners.

Will also serve as a role model for advanced practice professional provider through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Required License/ Registration/Certification

For Nurse Practitioner applicants, active Kentucky Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.

For Nurse Practitioner applicants, Acute Care certification is preferred.

For Physician Assistant applicants, current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification and active Kentucky Physician Assistant (PA) license.

Employment is contingent upon the University's verification of credentials as required by state law and University policies.



Physical Requirements

Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, or standing/walking for long periods of time.



Shift

Provide ambulatory , emergency, and urgent patient care during 4 , 10-hour sessions per week ( or equivalent) Work from APP ED Shift Schedule
