The University of Kentucky seeks a collaborative administrator with global experience, to serve as Director of International Partnerships and Research. The Director will be a member of the leadership team in the University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC), will report directly to the Associate Provost for Internationalization, and will work in both internally and externally focused arenas of international work.

The Director's primary operational responsibilities will include the following:
• management and negotiation of international institutional partnerships, including key strategic partnerships, under the guidance of the Associate Provost
• coordination and liaison work to develop international 2+2, joint degree, transfer agreements, and dual degree programs, as well as to manage visits by partner delegations
• identification of promising major multi-college global grant opportunities, collaborative grant-writing, and budget planning
• promotion and facilitation of diverse global research opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
• management and promotion of faculty and scholar Fulbright awards, incoming and outgoing
• assistance in strategic planning and assessment

This position will work to define and refine the university's portfolio of international partnerships in line with the university's strategic plan. The Director will collaborate with key stakeholders in the UKIC (including the Office of China Initiatives and the Global Heath Initiative), and in colleges to catalyze and sustain effective partnerships, and will cooperate with others (including UK Legal Counsel) to ensure the partnerships are developed and managed in accordance with best practices in this area. In addition, this position will support international research by working collaboratively with the UK Vice President for Research, among others, to identify, develop and support a diverse range of effective international research endeavors through innovative programs. The Director will work to raise the profile of the university's international research successes, as well as be informed about extramural funding opportunities, and will lead proposal writing, manage grants, and or contracts, and conduct assessment of their value. This position will also assist the Associate Provost on development and alumni relations initiatives.

The University of Kentucky's International Center (UKIC) is a growing unit with strong central support and an ambitious agenda, both for the campus and in strengthening our global partnerships for research and student mobility. The UKIC reports directly to the Provost, and houses approximately 30 full-time staff. The successful candidate will be joining a strong and ambitious leadership team and staff in the UKIC, with a record of success in expanding Education Abroad programming and participation, building high quality compliance and support services for international students and scholars, developing robust international health and safety policies for the university community, leading initiatives with Chinese partners, and reshaping an array of internal policies and processes so as to enhance international opportunities.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

This position requires a demonstrated ability to collaborate, network, and form partnerships. Strong communication (writing and speaking) skills in a multi-cultural environment are a must, in addition to the ability to seek out opportunities where identified.

In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural awareness, exercise emotional intelligence, possess the ability to build trust and show integrity, and provide leadership within the UK International Center.

The successful applicant must be willing to travel domestically and abroad, as well as demonstrate organizational skills to execute shared governance and to successfully undertake collaboration and teamwork.

Preferred Education/Experience

An earned doctorate in an appropriate field is preferred, but not required. Preferred qualifications include: significant administrative and program experience in global engagement and international education programs, with commensurate well-developed professional networks, as well as experience in fiscal management.
