ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR/Assistant Teaching Professor of Jazz Studies & Director of jazz Pe
Conduct Concert Jazz Band, teach Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Harmony & Arranging, and Jazz Methods & Materials. Coordinate the jazz performance studies area, which includes a jazz certificate (for music majors) and jazz minor (for non-music majors). Teaching classes in our Entrepreneurship program may be required, depending on area specialty. Assist with high school jazz festival held in partnership with local high school in February. Consult and collaborate appropriately with faculty in other areas, and also with a nationally recognized jazz presenting and educational organization, based in Columbia, called the “We Always Swing Jazz Series”. Provide appropriate service to the School and the University.
Doctorate in jazz performance strongly preferred. Master’s degree in jazz performance together with significant and commensurate professional experience required. Successful teaching record and demonstrable success in jazz direction at the college or university level required. Advanced performance skills in an appropriate instrumental area required. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills, and a commitment to diversity required.
