Registered Nurse (Per Diem Non-Exempt Healthcare) / Student Health Center (POOL)
Employment Status: Temporary "non-exempt" positions (with the possibility of the full-time positions converting to probationary)

Deadline: A pool of qualified candidates will be established for current and future vacancies. Qualified applicants will be kept active from January 1, 2017 through June 30, 2017.
Under the general supervision of a physician and the direction of the Director of the Student Health Center, the incumbent will be responsible for providing direct primary and preventative health care and education to students utilizing established protocols. The incumbent will work collaboratively with all center staff and actively participate in health education activities, training of health related personnel, and the development of policies, protocols and procedures. The incumbent will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and preventative counseling and education including reproductive health needs for men and women including but not limited to: STI's, contraception and pregnancy, interpretation of patient's medical history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests and recognition between normal, normal variance and abnormal findings. The incumbent will provide follow-up on all abnormal findings either by intervention, counseling or referral on or off-campus, and will administer first aid and urgent care. The incumbent will assist in contacting paramedics and emergency transport through the campus system when necessary, and will establish and document the plan of care utilizing the SOAP. In the absence of the clinic supervisor, the incumbent will supervise the work of the LVN and medical assistant staff. The incumbent will perform other related duties in support of the daily operation of the center as assigned.
Applicants must possess the equivalent to a high school diploma plus completion of a professional nursing program in an approved school of nursing or by additional preparation as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, along with a valid California Registered Nurse License and a valid Adult CPR Certification. Applicants must possess a thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; medical supplies and equipment used in nursing practice; and the uses and effects of medications and narcotics. Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing and the scope of practice limitations of clinic support staff is required. Applicants must possess the ability to effectively apply nursing knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques and skills in performing nursing duties; accurately observe and record symptoms, behaviors, and reactions to treatments in order to make a nursing diagnosis; respond with therapy to treatment reactions; use applicable health center automated systems to perform duties and maintain records and prepare reports; gain the cooperation of patients; analyze emergency situations and take prompt action; maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
Documentation of Immunity to Hepatitis B and Varicella or immunization series; TB clearance; Tetanus/Diphtheria vaccine documented within 10 years is required.
