Specialist - Advisor-Continuing
Serve as academic advisor to engineering students in any engineering major, with initial assignment to Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering majors and to prospective students. Perform the full range of academic advising activities including summer academic orientation, course and career planning, and major selection. Will also have responsibility for other student service functions and student engagement activities. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative setting with department faculty, other advisors and student support staff throughout the university. Occasional evening or weekend work can be expected.

Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office is expected. Applicant must have current legal authorization to work in the United States and for Michigan State University.
A master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field, and experience working with and/or advising college-age students preferred. Ability to establish rapport across ethnic, racial, cultural and gender differences is necessary. An interest in working with student transitions is desirable. Familiarity with university policies, procedures and student data systems; knowledge of career fields associated with science and engineering topics is preferred.Required Application Materials
