The CAS-Student Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor I to join the Social Sciences team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:* Advise students/prospective Social Sciences students in multiple settings regarding degree requirements, university policies, and procedures. * Familiarize students with general requirements for particular majors and degree progression. * Evaluate transfer course application toward University Core and CAS Requirements. * Process VA, ROTC, Financial Aid and other exceptional degree audits. * Prepare graduation checks for graduating seniors. * Review four year plans, U.Achieve and catalog copy as specified for accuracy. *Assist in creating and updating major/degree articulation guides for area community colleges. * Assist with advising for Transfer and Freshman Orientations. * Correspond with students concerning questions about degree requirements, transfer hours, etc. via email, phone, or mail. * Give presentations relating to UNT academic policies and major-specific information at functions such as Preview Day. Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or academic advising.* Strong presentation skills.* Strong problem solving skills.* Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.* Ability to work independently.
