JOB PURPOSE:

Provide individual, couples, and/or group counseling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention, clinical consultation, outreach programming, and supervision of pre-doctoral interns, post-doctoral fellows, and psychiatry residents, specializing in student populations from the African diaspora.


CORE DUTIES*:

  • Provide a wide range of direct clinical services to students, and work with faculty and administrators in consultation, outreach, and other collaborative initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient mental health services and programs to a diverse student population with a specific focus on the clinical and outreach needs of African American students.
  • Participate as a liaison to the Black Community Services Center.
  • Conduct phone triage and schedule students for intake, medical evaluation, or referral to outside provider.
  • Provide intake evaluations, individual brief therapy, couples and group therapy, and psycho-educational groups.
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and management to students of concern or in crisis; assess need for higher level care.
  • Evaluate and respond to emergency situations; provide consultation to campus for urgent/crisis situations.
  • Track students of concern or requiring higher levels of care, participate in discharge planning, and manage referrals.
  • Develop campus outreach through participation in educational programming and additional program development.
  • Participate in center meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned
  • Conduct seminar/rotation training.
  • Supervise pre/post-doctoral and/or psychiatry residents.

* - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:

PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology field and one-year post-degree experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in clinical skills in evaluation, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Proven ability to interact with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications:PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology field from an APA-accredited institution and APA internship.Demonstrated clinical competence with student populations from the African diaspora.
Certifications and Licenses:
  • Licensed Psychologist in California.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Frequently sit and perform desk based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, and write by hand.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully; sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
