Job Description Summary:
The position is in an integrative physiology/immunology and behavioral neurosciences laboratory focused on further understanding how environmental factors such as stress and anxiety related disorders such as PTSD contribute to high blood pressure (hypertension) and cardiovascular disease development. The laboratory is interested in the brain neurocircuitry involved in the autonomic control of blood pressure and neuroimmune mediated mechanisms involved in the development hypertension and cardiovascular related disease. We have a particular interest in the renin angiotensin system and its role in the development of cardiovascular and anxiety related diseases.
The Research Assistant will assist with these research activities using a variety of novel transgenic mouse models and state of the art cardiovascular, behavioral and immunological interdisciplinary approaches. This person will assist in all research activities related to the field of cardiovascular physiology / immunology / behavioral neurosciences including whole animal physiology, flow cytometry, animal behavior and small animal surgery. The successful applicant’s duties will include: (1) Organizes and implements research experiments; (2) Assists in the development of new methods; (3) Collects and analyzes data; (4) Performs day to day lab maintenance duties; (5) Assists with preparing manuscripts for publication; and (6) Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
A BA/BS in related discipline is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with basic techniques utilizing DNA, RNA, protein, tissue / cell culture and immunostaining / histology. Science Major. Bachelor’s degree.
