Job Summary:

As part of the Biochemistry Human Resources Monthly Payroll team, this position works under the general supervision of the Biochemistry Human Resources Team Leader. This position is responsible for initiating and processing payroll and related operations for the Department of Biochemistry in support of its instructional, research and service missions. The Biochemistry Department is comprised of 36 faculty members, 90 academic staff, 26 university staff, 93 undergraduate students, and 39 postdoctoral fellow employees with research expenditures exceeding $30 million annually from all departmental labs with funding designations including but not limited to: 101, 133, 135, 136, 144, 150, 167 and 322. There are different rules and regulations to follow for each appointment type. The Department has a variety of funding sources, many from Federal and non-Federal grants and awards. This requires constantly changing funding commitments on the various appointments. Funding periods may vary and include grant-funding periods that do not necessarily coincide with the fiscal year funding, complicating the payroll process.

In the role of payroll and benefits specialist, this position works with a variety of complex appointments and payroll information for positions with multiple funding sources and requirements.

This position requires the ability to learn and use many different UW information systems such as JEMS-CHRIS, HRS, TREMS, and ADW. This position requires the successful applicant to be highly independent, able to balance multiple tasks, have an understanding and knowledge of policies and procedures, and the ability to work closely and communicate efficiently with personnel.
