General Description of Position: The K-State Food Pantry Coordinator will be a front-line professional who works with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to promote food security for individuals at K-State. 

The role of the Food Pantry Coordinator is to bring together assets and resources across campus and the Manhattan community to make progress on the challenge of food insecurity.  Primary responsibilities include the planning and implementation of multi-faceted approaches that address food security and hunger.

Job Description: Oversee a centralized campus food pantry:

Coordinate food procurement and food recovery efforts for pantry Develop a network of volunteers and coordinate daily scheduling Supervise student volunteers and graduate assistants Generate and enforce policies related to: Safe food handling requirements, including dry, frozen, and/or refrigerated foods Storage Pest control Food safety training Provide one-on-one consultation with clients to identify campus and community resources and make appropriate referrals as necessary.

Engage in awareness and advocacy

  • Plan educational events and programs related to hunger and food justice Engage with national organizations working to alleviate hunger: Stop Hunger Now, Feeding America, etc.

Provide programming:

    • Generate campus and community awareness programs

    • Establish an online resource hub in partnership with campus offices

Cultivate and maintain positive partnerships with stakeholders including, but not limited to:

    • Student groups

    • Academic partners

    • Corporate partners

    • Supply partners.

Facilitate the pantry advisory board.

    • Create a strategic plan for addressing food insecurity at K-State

  • Oversee and manage funding sources allocated through Student Centered Tuition Enhancement (SCTE) funding.

Required Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree (or work equivalent) in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters' Degree

2-5 years of relevant work experience involving food procurement and/or management, related social services agencies, and/or higher education. 

Interest in designing, launching, and running a new student success program/startup initiative. Strong organizational skills including planning and leading events and experiences, record keeping and data collection. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience managing volunteers and employees. Comfort and experience working with diverse populations. Experience in maintaining collaborative working relationships throughout campus and the greater community. Ability to identify and promote the developmental needs of students. Commitment to working with students, faculty and staff and the K-State Principles of Community Excellent problem solving, interpersonal and presentation skills. Interest in hunger, sustainability, and food justice issues. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

Salary Range / Pay Rate: $36,674-$56,845
