Essential functions of this position:
The Recycling Technician supports the Recycling Services section and its efforts to reduce volumes of solid waste through diversion of materials from solid waste stream by completing the daily tasks necessary to:
1.Weigh and record materials arriving or departing the facilities
2.Sort and separate materials to include paper, plastic, metal, glass and wood
3.Separate, inspect, count and containerize recyclables
4.Load and weigh containers for processing & transportation
5.Operate scales to properly weigh recyclables and baled materials
6.Instruct patrons in proper recycling techniques and facility rules/guidelines
7.Ensure the cleanliness of the all recycling facility
8.Operate and perform basic maintenance of recycling equipment as required
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective process of recycled goods
Must have reading and math skills
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Physical stamina to work long periods in outside environment
Ability to communicate well in verbal and written form
Ability to lift a minimum of 100 pounds
Ability to work alone as well as relate to work with other people
Ability to learn new procedures, concepts and techniques
A high degree of motivation and enthusiasm for the success of the recycling program
Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Valid NC driver’s license
