The University of Mary is seeking a full time, non-exempt Assistant Global Studies Coordinator. Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Assistant Global Studies Coordinator will be:

  • Managing administrative operations budgets, assessments, staffing, training, compliance, and records retention
  • Promoting study abroad programs (e.g. information sessions, special cultural events, brochures, webpage, study abroad table at fairs, participation in freshman orientation, etc.) and leading student recruitment efforts
  • Serving as primary campus advisor and contact regarding educational opportunities abroad
  • Coordinating and developing study abroad trips in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across campus to enhance experiential learning opportunities
  • Coordinating pre-departure preparation and orientation process (visa compliance, health insurance, culture shock readiness, safety, etc.) and activities that help students transition back to the main campus
  • Facilitating communication of policies, procedures, and time-sensitive information among all stakeholders (students, staff, faculty, parents, administration) as appropriate
  • Reporting and assessing results on student evaluations of study abroad programs
  • Facilitating student application process and managing web-based software, from initial enquiry-to-alumni stages (applications, payments, waivers, visa process, etc.)
  • Supervising students working with the Global Studies Program
  • Assisting the Director of Global Studies in promoting and facilitating faculty-led study abroad programs (guiding the proposal process, assisting faculty in pre-departure preparation and orientation, etc.)

Other essential tasks include:

  • Auxiliary academic advising related to study abroad programs
  • Keeping current on and following foreign and U.S. rules regarding immigration and travel
  • Joining and participating in professional international study abroad organizations at the local, state, and national levels
  • Membership required in NAFSA: Association of International Educators
  • Supporting other university department's mission trip and service trip planning (e.g. Peru, Guatemala)
  • Be a part of the organization and promotion of UMary International week

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad is required
  • Public speaking experience
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to speak a foreign language is a plus
  • 1 year related work experience is a plus
  • Upholds and promotes the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the School of Arts and Sciences and throughout the university in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
