Director of Public Affairs/Chief Marketing Officer

The Director of Public Affairs/Chief Marketing Officer is responsible for the overall marketing and communication of the University of Mary to its multiple constituencies, both internal and external, in order to create a climate of public and private support for the fulfillment of the University's mission.  The position provides oversight and coordination for the offices within the area of Public Affairs, including Enrollment Marketing, Website Content, Creative Design, and Social Media.  

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops a public relations and marketing program which supports and advances the comprehensive vision of the University of Mary to its constituents
  • Provides direction and supervision to the University’s marketing team and creative services team, and oversees the external communication program to ensure that standards of high quality are maintained
  • Provides counsel and advice on major public relations issues
  • Manages the marketing budget for all of the University, and implements the campus’s media relations for print, digital, and broadcast media at the local, state and national levels
  • In support of the University’s enrollment goals, oversees the marketing team’s responsibility to ensure marketing strategies produce sufficient lead generation to meet enrollment objectives
  • Working with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, and also deans, faculty and administration, assesses the public relations needs, and develops and implements programs accordingly to meet those needs
  • Directs the design and implementation of a strategic University marketing program
  • Coordinates media strategy in support of the University’s mission advancement efforts and working directly with the Director of Mission Advancement manages a fundraising portfolio
  • Establishes a program of internal communication for the University
  • Prepares and submits a monthly dashboard report to the Vice President for Public Affairs
  • Performs other related duties as requested and assigned

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • A Master's degree is preferred
  • A minimum of five years of successful management experience in working and communicating with multiple audiences preferably at an institution of higher education
  • Upholds and promotes the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Public Affairs and throughout the university in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
