Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field. Experience in laboratory setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Animal handling experience is preferred. Experience with handling and performing surgical procedures in small animals (rodents). Experience with survival surgery and animal care. Experience with biochemical, histological and immunohistochemical techniques and behavioral testing of rodents.
Experience with data management (Excel, SPSS, Minitab, SigmaPlot/Stat), electronics, and computers. Ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.

Brief Description of Duties:

• Set-up and perform acute physiological recording studies on adult rodents; perform survival surgeries and post-operative care on adult rats (e. g. laminectomy/spinal cord transection and contusion, craniotomy/intracerebral injection, etc)

• Incumbent will be required to set-up and perform experiments related to the lab funding in central nervous system research.

• Set-up and perform serial physiological monitoring (e.g., plethysmography chamber, diuresis chamber) and behavioral testing (e.g., motor paradigms, spatial mazes) in adult rodents.

• Assist with survival surgeries and post-operative animal care on adult rodents (e.g., craniotomy/intracerebral injections, laminectomy/spinal cord transection and contusion, etc.).

• Set-up and perform biochemical assays (e.g., Western Blot, RT-PCR, protein and RNA quantification, etc.).

• Perform tissue processing for histology/immunohistochemistry (e.g. fixation, sectioning, slide-mounting, staining, etc)

• Provide general laboratory support, including ordering supplies and maintaining accurate laboratory records.

• Assist with training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Other duties or projects as assigned.

Special Notes: FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
