Postdoctoral Position in Craniofacial Genetics and Development
Job Description: Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position in quantitative genetics and/or cranial development. The successful candidate will work on an interdisciplinary project involving researchers from the University of Calgary, University of San Francisco, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, and LUC. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for two additional years based on performance. For more information about the department visit www.luc.edu/biology. The postdoc will work with Dr. Cheverud to investigate the genetic basis for variation in craniofacial morphology. S/he will be involved in several different aspects of the project, such as conducting simulations, analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, giving presentations, and mentoring students. In addition to lab work, the postdoc will teach courses in the Department of Biology. This position will support research in the laboratory of Dr. James Cheverud. The lab team will be mapping gene effects (QTLs) on craniofacial morphology in mice using its advanced intercross line. The project will focus particularly on how nonlinear developmental systems translate into nonlinear gene effects, like epistasis, measured at the genotypic and population levels. The successful candidate will be familiar either with QTL gene mapping analysis or with morphology (or both). The postdoc will teach 1-2 departmental courses each semester. This is an ideal position for candidates who are interested in gaining teaching experience while conducting cutting-edge research.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field. A background in working with statistical genetics, development, and evolution is desirable but not required.
