Assistant Director for Study Abroad

Job Purpose
The Division of Academic Affairs at Towson University seeks an Assistant Director for the Study Abroad Office. The successful candidate will assist the Director by performing key operations of the Study Abroad Office which facilitates international academic experiences for 500+ students each year.

Description
The Assistant Director counsels students on all aspects of their study abroad experience and develops and administers short and long-term TU programs and exchanges. Responsibilities include management of the study abroad web-based application and tracking system (Symplicity Horizons); training and supervision of the student Peer Advisor program and oversight of TU affiliate provider student ambassadors; facilitation of student pre-departure and reentry programming; coordination of study abroad registration and billing; liaising with international partner institutions and domestic-based study abroad program providers; communication with other administrative and academic departments; assisting the Director with crisis management as needed; and other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Director is expected to be actively involved in the field of international education in the region, nationally, and internationally via participation in professional organizations and conferences. Some domestic and international travel may be required.

Qualifications
Master's degree; minimum three years experience working in education abroad; familiarity with current trends and best practices within the field; experience working with various constituencies (e.g., administrators, faculty, and parents); strong analytical skills and demonstrated use of computer applications, database, and web-based technology; excellent communication skills; ability to work as an effective team member; ability to multi-task; highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented; and experience working or studying abroad.

Preferred qualifications: Experience with study abroad advising, program development, administration, and pre-departure programming; knowledge of PeopleSoft, previous experience with Symplicity Horizons or other web-based study abroad enrollment system; and the ability to speak a foreign language.

A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.

Salary and Benefits
$48,100 annually and full university benefits that include excellent health, life insurance, and retirement plans; tuition remission; and 22 days of annual leave, 14 holidays, personal and sick days. To learn more about our benefits, please click here.
