Director of Annual Giving

The Director of Annual Giving (DAG) reports to the Vice President of Advancement and assumes primary responsibilities for the annual giving operation. The DAG's performance is measured by participation rates, gift income, retention rates, average gift and pledge rates. They are responsible for developing, creating content and implementing an integrated direct mail and email program that drives participation and dollars contributed, as well as supervising, mentoring, coaching and training the Assistant Director who manages the telemarketing, student giving and student alumni leadership training programs. The Director is also responsible for overseeing the Annual Giving Committee of the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Association. This includes identifying, recruiting, training, motivating and managing volunteers to execute successful peer-to-peer annual asks. They work closely with the Vice President to identify and coordinate other aspects of the annual giving program including reporting, and with other advancement colleagues to support divisional initiatives and goals.
The work requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills. The variety of duties implies the need for excellent time management, a strong inclination to action, and the ability to record, track and respond to data trends. This position requires proficiency in Word and Excel as well as experience in an Advancement CRM system such as Raiser's Edge. Candidate will demonstrate best practices in fundraising on an ongoing basis and become knowledgeable of current trends and advances within the development field by participating in seminars and online communications. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required;
Minimum of 3-5 year experience in fundraising or higher education;
Interpersonal skills, as well as written and oral communication skills, are essential;
Strong persuasive writing skills and familiarity with segmentation;
Quantitative analysis is fundamental to this position;

Ability to communicate and work effectively within an academic environment and with professors;
The ability to travel and work some weekends.

Preferred Qualification:
Management experience preferred.
