Posting Date: 12-06-2016

Posting Summary:
The Casey Laboratory at the University of Virginia seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of inherited colorectal cancer and glioblastoma risk with a focus on genetics, genomics and computational biology. The candidate will join an interactive group of motivated scientists at the Center for Public Health Genomics to study the biology of genetic risk factors involved in colorectal cancer and glioblastoma.

Our studies involve the integration of increasingly large amounts of genotypic, phenotypic and 'omics data to investigate the biological basis of inherited risk. We are incorporating epigenetic (for example ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq), genetic/genomic (for example genome wide association studies, whole genome sequencing and RNA-Seq) and cell biology (normal colon 3D organoid "mini-gut" models, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing) approaches to interrogate the biological and mechanistic basis of inherited risk variants. The selected candidate will be expected to participate in the development of publications for peer-reviewed journals, as well as on grant proposals to funding agencies. The candidate will be encouraged to choose his or her own research projects in the above-mentioned areas, with appropriate mentorship.

Candidates must have a PhD in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related field, or an MD degree, in hand by start date and demonstrated expertise in molecular genomics. Must have experience in at least two of the following: genetics; genomics; computational genomics/bioinformatics; molecular biology; high-throughput genome analyses. Working experience with bioinformatics tools is preferred. Successful candidates must have independence and creativity, as well as effective oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.

To apply, visit https://jobs.virginia.edu and search on Posting Number 0620046. Complete a Candidate Profile on-line; attach a current CV, cover letter, and contact information for three references.
