Associate Vice President, Institutional Research, Effectiveness & Planning

Utah Valley University seeking to hire an executive leader within the Division of Planning, Budget, and Human Resources, the Associate Vice President for Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning provides leadership and coordination of university-wide strategic planning efforts; institutional research, analysis, and mandatory reporting; institutional effectiveness/assessment; and regional accreditation compliance.

  • Works closely with leaders and organizations across the university to develop and foster a campus culture of and capacity for data-informed decision-making that supports student success, mission fulfillment, and planning.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a framework for ongoing university-wide strategic planning, assessment, and improvement processes and ensures understanding of the university's strategic planning process by engaging leaders, faculty, staff, students, and trustees.
  • Manages a comprehensive program of institutional research and reporting functions of the university to ensure compliance with all federal and state reporting; provides timely and accurate data, reports, and information to university leaders, key stakeholders, and the university community at large; fulfills compliance requirements; communicates the UVU story; and supports planning, assessment, and decision-making.
  • Oversees efforts for developing, conducting, and obtaining institutional survey and research information; performing analyses, producing reports, and communicating findings; guiding institutional data research and analysis projects in support of planning, assessment and improvement efforts.
  • Assess allocation of divisional resources to ensure and model efficiency and effectiveness; develop a four-year rolling strategic plan for the division; engage in the annual PBA process including presentation during PBA conversations. As the leader, model UVU's leadership competencies of trust, develops others, communication, results-oriented, strategic vision, technical expertise, and organizational agility.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree related closely to the area of responsibility and five to seven years full-time experience in a strategic leadership role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of higher education environment and issues.
  • Knowledge of best practices in higher education planning, assessment, institutional research, decision support, data analysis, and information communication.
  • Knowledge of regional accreditation requirements in support of institutional compliance and related to planning and assessment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to higher education, including institutional reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research design and analysis, predictive modeling, analytics, statistics, and information technology.
  • Understanding of UVU’s unique educational mission and role within the Utah System of Higher Education.
  • Exceptional skills in interpersonal communication, poise, and professionalism.
  • Skills in effectively managing personnel (individually and in teams), fiscal resources, and meetings.
  • Strong skills in technical writing, visualization, and presenting information verbally.
  • Skills in research focusing on design, collection, analysis, interpretation, and communication of findings.
  • Skills in influencing strategic planning and implementation of best practices for institutional effectiveness.
  • Skills in research methods, statistics, surveying, projections, modeling, longitudinal and trend analysis, data visualization, strategic planning, and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:
An doctoral degree and a minimum of five years of recent experience in Institutional Research, Institutional Effectiveness, Institutional Planning, or a related field within higher education OR a Master’s degree in a related field and seven years of recent experience in Institutional Research, Institutional Effectiveness, Institutional Planning, or a related field within higher education.

Physical Requirements:
M-F 8 AM - 5 PM and other hours as needed.

No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Pay Range: $83,658 - 111,544
