The Academic Department Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn), under the direction of the CEO/Executive Dean (CEO) of the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group (PH-USC MG) will manage both academic, educational, and research operations of the Department of Ob/Gyn in the Medical Group. Working with the Administrative Director, Medical Director and with the support of senior leadership of the PH-USC Medical Group the Academic Department Chair will participate in selection, organization, and empowerment of the physicians within the Department of Ob/Gyn; while collaboratively supporting Palmetto Health's and the USC School of Medicine's strategic objectives. In addition, the Academic Department Chair, in concert with the Medical Director, will lead the clinical integration of the physicians and team members employed in the Palmetto Health medical practices and the School of Medicine faculty members, ensuring appropriate credentialing of providers and participate in peer review and other quality reviews as needed. The Chair is expected to collaborate with the Medical Director, the Ob/Gyn Residency Program Director and Palmetto Health GME leaders to promote outstanding Ob/Gyn Graduate Medical Education at Palmetto Health. Furthermore the Chair is expected to work closely with Palmetto Health's and the Medical Group's quality and performance improvement teams to optimize performance in assigned areas of responsibility; while supporting the initiatives of the Palmetto Health Quality Collaborative and the statewide quality programs that relate to Ob/Gyn care (e.g., Birth Outcomes Initiative). As well as promote a spirit of inquiry and improvement among physicians, trainees, and other team members in the Ob/Gyn Dept.
Medical degree from an accredited medical school with excellent post-graduate medical education. Board certification in specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Eligible for membership on the medical staff with clinical privileges. A minimum of five years of senior-level Ob/Gyn in an academic or teaching setting. A teacher and scholar with credentials and experience suitable for appointment at the rank of an associate professor or full professor (clinical or tenured). A distinguished record as a clinician in his/her specialty/subspecialty with a willingness to continue a significant clinical practice. A clear understanding of the requirements of managing a major department within an academic medical organization that is integrated with a comprehensive, wide-ranging set of clinical practices. Experience at productively managing the academic and community hospital/physician relationship.A proven management track record including operational responsibility for financial performance with a demonstrated ability to develop and meet budgets. Familiarity with information systems, regulatory compliance issues, and business operations for physician groups. Passion for and familiarity with advancing quality of care, patient safety, the patient experience, and cost-effectiveness of care through innovation and process improvement.
