Job Description Summary:

The laboratory of Dr. Brad Jones at the George Washington University has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist position. We are focused on studying the potential for natural and engineered cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer (NK) cells to contribute to achieving sterilizing or functional cures of HIV infection. Studies are conducted using ex vivo patient samples or in one of several novel in vivo models, with opportunities to advance successful interventions into non-human primate studies and clinical trials. Our lab plays a central role in the newly established ‘BELIEVE’ co-laboratory, an NIH funded $27M project that involves 17 national and international institutions, and also enjoys strong links with the newly established DC Center for AIDS Research. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist who will thrive in this exciting co-laboratory environment.

The position will also involve the opportunity for the successful applicant to write their own NIH grants, and to build their own research team within the Jones lab if successful.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a master’s degree/PhD and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area, to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

- PhD in immunology or a related discipline, with postdoctoral experience
- Experience working with mice
- Expertise with immunological techniques including multiparameter flow cytometry
- Strong writing skills including the ability to produce manuscripts and grant applications
- Ability to work independantly
- A history of productivity with multiple first author publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong managerial and organizational skills
- Experience in virological assays and next generation sequencing will be considered strong assets
