Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia's Department of Surgery is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery to join two board certified colon and rectal surgeons in an academic practice. Candidates must have a MD or equivalent, and be board certified/board eligible in colon and rectal surgery. This position is for a tenure ineligible or tenure eligible assistant or associate professor of surgery. To be considered for the tenure-eligible position, candidates must have a clear academic plan and/or demonstrated excellence in research and the generation of new knowledge. Rank and track will be dependent on qualifications.

The Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery is a part of the Division of General Surgery. The section prides itself on clinical activity, academic production and educational commitment. Clinically the practice is primarily colon and rectal surgery. However, some general surgery call is required and the candidate may be asked to do additional general surgery as the practice matures. Currently the practice is located solely at the University of Virginia campus but the successful candidate may be asked to establish relationships with partnering institutions to assist in expanding the practice. Opportunities for growth exist for candidates interested in pelvic floor, sacral nerve stimulation and high-resolution anoscopy, so an interest and/or expertise in this area is a plus. Research opportunities exist in the areas of basic science, surgical outcomes and education for those candidates with a clearly defined academic endeavor, which is strongly encouraged as part of the application process. The successful candidate will work with general surgery residents and medical students and will be required to assist in these educational endeavors.
