At Stony Brook Medicine, a Senior Pharmacist is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. The incumbent will supervise personnel who are assigned to work in the main Pharmacy dispensing area, as well as Pharmacy personnel deployed to the units for all or part of a shift. He or she will be expected to assist in the periodic evaluation of staff with whom he or she is in regular contact and routinely supervises. The incumbent will have authority to initiate disciplinary action when necessary.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise TH Pharmacists, TH Pharmacy Assistants and other personnel assigned to the evening/night shifts.
- Oversee and ensure the efficient operation of all compounding and dispensing areas that are under the responsibility of the Hospital Pharmacy Director.
- Oversee and ensure the efficient integration of the Pharmacy’s dispensing operations including, but not limited to, the main dispensing area, sterile compounding area, extemporaneous compounding, batching of oral liquids, and preparation of emergency and anesthesia drug trays.
- Maintain compliance with all laws, rules and regulations governing the practice of Pharmacy.
- Effectively coordinate delivery of pharmaceutical care with other Departments and areas that perform direct or indirect patient care.
- Maintain an accurate and adequate inventory of medications.
- Performance of other duties as required.
Required: This position requires a minimum of a BS degree in Pharmacy or a PharmD degree. It also requires a license to practice Pharmacy in New York State, and a current New York State Pharmacist Registration. Five years of hospital pharmacy experience. Two years of Pharmacy supervisory experience. One year experience in sterile compounding and handling of hazardous materials. One year experience in use of automated dispensing systems.
