Job Description
Postdoctoral Fellow is needed in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences for research project to understand contaminant cycling
in a coastal estuary, including field work, laboratory analyses and writing up results. Specifically, the postdoc will take sediment core and water samples in a coastal estuary throughout at least one tidal cycle, and aner extraction of pore water, the postdoc will analyze aqueous samples for concentrations of mercury species, sulfide and iron, as well as pH and oxygen redox potential. The postdoc will also characterize organic matter. The postdoc will use standard EPA methods for all analyses in a fully equipped lab. After laboratory analyses are finished, the postdoc will write up the results and discussion in a publishable paper. The applicant must have familiarity with conducting chemical analyses in a laboratory. This position requires strong organizational skills, and laboratory management abilities.


Minimum Qualifications
This individual will have earned a PhD in environmental sciences or a closely related field (e.g., marine science). The applicant must have familiarity conducting chemical analyses m a laboratory, for example, characterization of organic matter.
