Job Description

The Classroom Technologist is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Learning Technology at Stevens. This is an on-site position with an established work schedule, however the position may also require the ability to work off hours and weekends as necessary to meet the needs of the position. The successful candidate will work with faculty and staff members on the implementation of audio visual and multimedia learning technolgies and the development of instructional content that will be used to support all aspects of Stevens' teaching, learning, and collaboration spaces. This individual will also plan, coordinate and conduct workshops on the use of new and existing classroom technologies (AV) in support of teaching and learning, conduct research on emerging technologies, survey users on existing classrooms and collaboration spaces, and provide instruction and support in the development and/or improvement of technology skills as well as the technological enhancement of learning spaces.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Management and oversite of learning and collaboration AV technology across campus
  • Standardizing and implementing AV technology to support various modes of instruction (lecture, active learning, collaboration, etc)
  • Working with a wide range of multimedia software including digital audio, video, web, and animation
  • Developing instructional materials on the use of AV technology
  • Developing recommended plans concerning physical space technology for coordination with other divisions including Academics, Facilities, and others
  • Being the faculty liason regarding all AV classroom technology usage and implementations
  • Selecting, ordering, receiving, and coordinating the installation of AV hardware into instructional spaces
  • Working with various audio visual integrators to select and install best-in-class audio visual technology for learning spaces
  • Conducting research to identify potential new and software and hardware emerging technologies and applications to enhance classrooms and instructional spaces
  • Assisting in the administration of various enterprise classroom technologies for video collaboration and lecture streaming
  • Conducting workshops on AV classroom technology (projection systems, controllers, Smart boards etc) in coordination with other members of the Division of Information Technology.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on departmental and institution-wide projects
  • Designing and developing print and web-based user documentation and materials
  • Being an active representitve of Stevens at conferences and external communities
  • Supervising and mentoring student employees
  • Supporting the general operations of the Division of Information Technology
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, with at least 3 years of experience working in AV, instructional technology, teaching and learning with technology, or a directly related field; an equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of Windows-based and Mac-based resolutions digital video signal processing including presentation
  • Proficiency with audiovisual technologies including projection systems, audio systems, interactive displays, and audiovisual design and development tools and systems
  • Commitment to learning and adapting emerging technologies for support of teaching, learning, and collaboration
  • Experience with classroom response systems, such as Turning Point, Poll Everywhere, iClicker etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong service ethic and customer service skills
  • The ability to lift between 30-50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic environment and to handle multiple priorities simultaneously with a sense of urgency concerning project completion.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous training experience
  • Experience using learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), web conferencing services (e.g. WebEx), media hosting services, unified communications, and similar technologies
  • Experience standardizing and categhorizing AV technology for classrooms with various technology packages per room
  • Knowledge of active learning space design and technology integration
  • Knoweldge and experience with room control systems
  • Experience deploying wireless collaboration and projection in learning and collaboration spaces
  • Fimiliarity with construction and experience installing A/V hardware into instructional spaces
  • Active participation in professional organizations and professional development programs relevant to the position.
