The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a tenure-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor on a Clinician Educator track or a tenured Associate or Full Professor on a Clinician Educator track within the Hospital Epidemiology & Antimicrobial Stewardship programs.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
Clinical Service: Develop and implement infection control procedures and policies in conjunction with infection control staff. Assist with the oversight of the collaborative efforts of infectious disease trained pharmacist(s) and other physicians in the operation of antimicrobial stewardship program team to limit unnecessary antimicrobial exposure in hospitalized patients as well as assist in the development of infection specific guidelines. The successful candidate would also provide patient care in the general infectious disease in both inpatient and outpatient settings. There are also opportunities focused in caring for HCV and HCV-HIV co-infected patients, managing outpatient infusion patients, HIV, travel clinic and transplant inpatient and outpatient consult services, attending on general medicine wards.
Education: Staffing Infectious Disease clinic and Infectious Disease consultation services while teaching principles and practice of infectious diseases to fellows, residents and medical students. Complete student, resident and fellow evaluations. Participate in ID educational activities including resident didactic series, Departmental Grand Rounds, and other educational duties assigned.
Research: Participate in clinical and administrative research according to skills, interest and funding. Provide mentoring and supervision of fellows and residents as appropriate.
Candidates must have a MD degree, be board-certified and/or board eligible in Internal Medicine and in Infectious Disease by appointment start date. Candidates should have training, exposure and interest in antimicrobial stewardship with plans for development of policies and procedures to help identify and minimize inappropriate antimicrobial use. The successful candidate will also understand principles of hospital epidemiology with the ability to implement and draft hospital policies and procedures to limit the spread of infections to hospitalized patients.
