Overview

EyeWire is a game to map the brain from the laboratory of Sebastian Seung at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. Launched in Dec 2012, the playerbase has grown to over 130,000 people from 140 countries. In the game, players map the 3D structure of neurons, allowing researchers at the Seung Lab to decipher their synaptic connectivity. EyeWire has been published in Nature. It has won numerous awards, including the NSF's International Visualization Challenge. EyeWire's images have appeared in numerous major media outlets, ranging from Scientific American and WIRED to the New York Times and Forbes. This is a summer position with a flexible work schedule.




Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and refine user interface elements that accompany new and existing features
  • Game design (onboarding, mechanics, reward), UI/UX
  • Incremental improvements in Eyewire UI using existing Style Guide
  • 3D visualizations as animations showcasing cells reconstructed by Eyewirers
  • Work with Illustrators and gamemasters to layout promotional posters for Eyewire competitions and significant events
  • Branding for Eyewire and sister campaigns
  • Render images of cells reconstructed by Eyewirers for use as posters, in presentations, and on the web
  • Web banners and Templated promotional materials
  • Help design Eyewire's neuroscience VR experiences, museum exhibits, and miscellaneous public demos


Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • High School degree or higher



ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder)
  • Proficiency in Sketch
  • Experience designing 3D animations and/or in virtual reality a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple deadline-driven tasks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in animation
  • Experience in sound and video editing
  • Prefer experience with Unity or Unreal
