The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities.


The Team Leader, Monograph Acquisitions leads and manages the Unit having primary responsibility for the acquisition of scholarly content in all formats to support the teaching and research missions of Princeton University. The Team Leader oversees the commitment of a significant portion of the Library's substantial annual acquisitions budget for the purchase of library collection material including but not limited to: books, videos, CDs, online books and other electronic resources; manuscripts, rare books and/or other forms of unique high value material; out-of-print, antiquarian and other difficult-to-secure material; time-sensitive material for course reserves and in fulfillment of special requests of faculty, students, University scholar affiliates, etc.

Initiates contact with new library suppliers and develops workflows for new types of library material, which includes establishing business relationships and channels of supply with business partners in difficult-to-access parts of the world. Responds to a broad range of service-related problems frequently requiring innovative solutions.

Directly supervises eight staff of the Monograph Acquisitions Team; has primary responsibility to train and develop team staff to accommodate change in the library acquisitions business environment and to improve operational workflow in accord with opportunistic developments like new technology, new vendor systems, etc. Collaborates closely with selectors of Library departments responsible for the management of specific book funds in establishing and managing vendor contacts. Participates in strategic planning activities of the Technical Services Department. Reports to the Head of Scholarly Content Services.


Required: MLIS degree (or equivalent) or MBA and a minimum of 3-4 years of experience relevant to library content procurement and/or supply, or a bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience.

Work experience using an integrated library system or equivalent, e.g. book vendor inventory control system. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise, motivate, train and develop staff.

Experience which demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills; strong organizational skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills requiring close attention to detail.

Excellent business application computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience managing library acquisitions in an academic library or the book trade serving academic libraries strongly preferred.
