Director of Student Conduct
Within the Office of the Dean of Student Life on the Homewood Campus at Johns Hopkins University there are eleven (11) different units, including student activities, fraternity and sorority life, new student orientation, LGBTQ programs, student conduct, student health, and the counseling center that are overseen by the Associate Vice Provost/Dean of Students, Senior Associate Dean of Students, and Associate Deans. Student Conduct supports the department’s contributions towards Student Life Strategic Goals; diversity & inclusion, health & well-being; and community engagement.
The Director of Student Conduct assists with the overall administration, education, and management of the students for the Krieger School of Arts and Science (KSAS) and the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE). This position will primarily serve as a conduct administrator in the facilitation and resolution of conduct related matters on the Homewood campus. The Director of Student Conduct will report to and support the Associate Dean for Student Conduct in policy and protocol development, process implementation- to include investigative processes, managing communication with all parties and recordkeeping, evaluation of the student conduct system and campus-related disputes. The Director of Student Conduct will aid in the review of procedures and publications; advise and make referrals for students with grievances; promote student learning of conduct and behavioral expectations; and contribute to the evaluation of program effectiveness.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Conduct Management (65%)
- Conduct informational & investigative meetings, and administrative hearings for students or student groups who are referred for ethics, residential, and Student Conduct Code violations
- Review, evaluate, investigate, adjudicate, and set sanctions for cases of alleged student misconduct violations in accordance with appropriate University policies and processes.
- Conduct regular follow-up with students who have not completed assigned sanctions and place administrative holds on accounts when appropriate.
- Oversee recruiting efforts, selection process, and confirmation of board members.
- Assist with the training of the Student Conduct Board, Undergraduate Academic Ethics Board, and the Greek Life Judicial Committee on policies, procedures and responsibilities.
- Assist with the development of training materials.
- Prepare and copy hearing materials, scripts, and associated correspondence for board members.
- Facilitate the scheduling of conference calls with staff, faculty, students, board members, presiding officials, and scheduling related meetings for administrative hearings, board hearings, file review meetings, and witness meetings.
- Staff and assist in all administrative and logistical aspects of the Student Conduct Board and Undergraduate Academic Ethics Board.
- Partner with the Office of the Dean of Student Life Case Managers in the resolution of student reports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of educational programming on ethics and community standards
- Participate in the annual student conduct policy revision process, development of annual report and dissemination of statistical data for hearing officers and key stakeholders.
- Report and compile annual crime statistics in accordance with the Clery Act.
- Complete other special projects as assigned by Associate Dean of Student Conduct.
- Participate in divisional and departmental programs, training sessions, and workshops.
- Represent the Associate Dean for Student Conduct on committees and in general to the campus community.
Student Conduct Administration (35%)
- Ensure that student conduct hearings are effectively administered by preparing all notifications and documentation, scheduling conduct meetings and hearings, notifying all participants, and reviewing all physical and/or documentary evidence submitted to hearing boards.
- Input and maintain records and files of disciplinary cases in respective databases in keeping with applicable University policies and state/federal laws.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean in the enforcement and implementation of interim measures under the Student Conduct Code and the Johns Hopkins University Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures.
- Oversee database management and maintain files on all disciplinary cases.
- Serve as a primary liaison for Advocate and coordinates processes, creates systems, reviews practices, and maintains consistency within the Advocate database.
- Track and monitor sanction completion through Advocate database for students, groups/organizations.
- Oversee comprehensive disciplinary record checks and dean’s certifications for campus, employment, state, and federal agencies.
- Facilitate and process grade changes and transcript notations in collaboration with the Registrar’s Office and faculty.
- Assist with compliance requirements involving student conduct.

Master’s Degree required in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of three to five years of full time experience in student conduct, residential life, student affairs or related area in higher education. Five or more years preferred.

- Demonstration of working knowledge in areas of federal, state, and local law and regulation affecting higher education and student life.
- Demonstration of current conduct related issues, legal trends, educational initiatives and current issues in higher education.
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality with all education records in accordance with FERPA. Ability to partner and work in a team setting with other respective departments on campus in the management and resolution of campus issues.
- Flexible, highly skilled, and autonomous position that is able to handle other appropriate matters as assigned by the Associate Dean. Membership in professional associations such as ASCA, participation in COFHE, attendance and presentations at conferences, institutes, and seminars.
