As a premier global experiential learning institution, we seek a dynamic executive-level leader with extensive academic, industry, or corporate relations/business development experience to fill this new role. The AVP provides strategic and operational leadership of the university's employer engagement, career services, and learner experience units, serving and accountable to employer partners, internal stakeholders, and learners who engage and interact with these units at all levels of the university's diverse portfolio of academic offerings.

The AVP's employer engagement responsibilities include the establishment, execution, and nurturing of novel and expanded relationships between the university and its employer partners. Career-related responsibilities include strategic and operational leadership of the university's career services unit and collaboration with faculty and administrators across the university to support and evolve Northeastern's renowned cooperative education and experiential learning program. The AVP's learner experience responsibilities are specifically focused on the university's professional education portfolio through its Professional Advancement Network (PAN) and includes ongoing and comprehensive learner services and support.

This exciting merger of employer engagement and career services strategies presents the opportunity for the AVP to extend and lead a network of employer partners who both benefit from and serve Northeastern's signature experiential learning model and initiatives. These initiatives include co-ops, externships, internships, project-based opportunities, research partnerships, and customized employer engagements that serve learners at all stages and phases of their lifelong learning engagement or careers. Employers may access and simultaneously support learners of all types through this network - traditional undergraduates, doctoral-level researchers, graduate-level professionals, career changers, alumni, and others. The AVP and her/his teams help employers to leverage the full breadth and depth of the university's people and its portfolio to meet their diverse, varied, anticipated and urgent talent needs.

The successful candidate will lead and administer the following employer engagement opportunities:

  • Design and implement a strategy for developing new and existing relationships with employers around the world;
  • Supervise and guide employer engagement consultants (account managers);
  • Select, onboard, and administer a comprehensive client relationship management system;
  • Develop and expand the portfolio of programs, services, and opportunities available to employer partners;
  • Establish and achieve territory- and industry-specific partnership goals, and allocate and administer resources in order to achieve them; and
  • Develop and lead a data-informed approach in collaboration and alignment with stakeholders, including but not limited to the university's Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy and the Research Institute for Experiential Learning Science.

    The successful candidate will also lead and administer the following career services opportunities:

    o Leverage existing strengths and build capacity by collaborating with the colleges and PAN to establish a comprehensive and robust career design and agility curriculum;
    o Expand the reach of career services and the new curriculum to learners who are not Boston-based; and
    o Create specialized programming to personalize the career services experience while meeting the unique and varied career needs of special populations.

    Finally, the AVP will also lead and administer the following Professional Advancement Network initiatives and teams.

    o Administer a career and academic coaching strategy to ensure that learners are engaging and progressing consistent with their Career Action Plans, personalized career roadmaps that align curricula and experiential learning opportunities with in-demand competencies and employer needs.
    o Administer a Learner Services unit to enable and serve all learners from pre-enrollment through graduation and drive learners' satisfaction, persistence, and completion.
    o Champion an institutional strategy to ensure continued growth and success of emergent and existing opportunities for experiential learning with global employer partners.

    The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree. A minimum of 10 years’ senior-level leadership with extensive academic, industry, or corporate relations/business development experience is required. A sophisticated understanding and track record working within talent acquisition, workforce development and academic and career services is required. Demonstrated accomplishments in leading, integrating, and administering initiatives for learners services, career and academic coaching, and/or experiential learning at scale and with quality. The successful candidate must demonstrate proven leadership abilities, project management skills, staff engagement (including professional development of staff) and managerial supervision expertise, and ability to delegate effectively. Experience with program development and assessment practices is strongly preferred.

    The successful candidate will provide evidence of working with diverse populations, possess public speaking and persuasive communication abilities. Necessary and complementary characteristics include creativity, agility, resilience, and the ability to bring together seemingly disparate groups to work collaboratively toward meeting well-articulated goals.
