This position will be based at The Chicago School's campus in Northwest Washington, D.C.. The Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA) has awarded accreditation to The Chicago School's Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program on the Washington, D.C. Campus. Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Sponsored Programs will work with faculty, staff and institutional leadership to take a lead role in identifying and obtaining funding for institutional and multi-campus projects and projects involving DC-based faculty and staff but will be called on to assist with other campus projects as necessary. Reporting to the Senior Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Associate Director will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, campus leadership and/or institutional leadership on all stages of proposal development, preparation, and submission.

The Associate Director of Sponsored Programs works cooperatively with the Office of Advancement, members of the administration, as well as Campus Deans, Academic Deans, Department Chairs, Center/Institute/Office Directors, finance staff and faculty and staff; maintaining open communication with respect to sponsored projects requirements, policies, procedures, and issues. The Associate Director will develop and make recommendations to the Senior Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs for appropriate policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with sponsor/project financial and administrative management requirements. The Associate Director maintains collegial working relationships with a broad range of institutional offices due to the wide range of potential transactions and activities related to sponsored projects.

The Associate Director will also work closely with a peer group across TCSPP and will be supported administratively by TCS Education System.

Principal Duties:
  • Develop and execute a cultivation and engagement strategy for program officers and other key representatives of regional/local, state, and federal funding agencies.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director and the DC campus leadership, develops plans of overall DC campus sponsored programs goals, priorities, and strategy for funding, based on institutional strategic plan.
  • Provide comprehensive support to members of The Chicago School community engaged in the preparation and submission of research proposals and the central management of the entire sponsored award portfolio.
  • Cultivate campus-based relationships with faculty and staff to identify research and programmatic interests to be matched with sponsor interests .
  • Foster and ensure the highest levels of service to investigators and grant managers.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director, proactively identify, monitor, and match relevant funding opportunities to TCSPP faculty, staff and institutional needs and strengths.
  • Identify funding trends, growing and broadening the portfolio, and advising the Senior Director of Sponsored Programs in setting the strategic sponsored programs direction for the University.
  • Review, edit, write, and approve all grant proposals/applications for submission. Ensure that all submissions forwarded are clear and comply with funding program priorities, including institution-wide and external policies.
  • Assess the need for and advise the Senior Director on the development/implementation of grant and contract related policy or procedure changes.
  • Take a leadership role in working with DC and Online faculty and staff to provide training and other technical assistance needed to stimulate and support submission of grants and contract proposals.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of documented experience and success in grant-writing, advancement and/or sponsored programs in higher education.
  • Experience in higher education in working with faculty and external publics in fund raising and/or grantsmanship, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of government grant and contract techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge of DC philanthropic community and federal funding agencies.
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, complex tasks and relationships with initiative and independence.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in writing successful, complex proposals that clearly articulate the need for funding and the significance of the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze a variety of reference materials in order to develop and complete proposals to foundation, and government sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze a variety of materials to compile, evaluate and disseminate data on funding opportunities.
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computer software particularly Microsoft Office Suite, including, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, COS Pivot. Experience with fundraising software.
