Director for Business Development and Operations

Saybrook University is seeking a Director of Business Development and Operations.

Under the direction of the Office of the President, the Director is responsible for supporting strategic and operational business operations support to the president of the university, divisional and college leadership, faculty and staff. Serving as the Institutional Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the System Chief Financial Officer and the Education System's Finance Office, this individual will be responsible for creating and managing the university's budget; identifying areas for enhancements/improvements to revenues and expenses; offering guidance to budget managers. Additionally, the director will provide project management support relative to the institution's strategic plan and university goals, identify areas for increasing programmatic capacity, and supporting initiatives that will further increase the university's visibility in the communities it serves. Lastly, the position will provide clear leadership, guidance and support as pertains to facilities, human resources, and payroll operations. The Director for Business Development and Operations will report directly to the President of the University.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Working close with the Education System's Chief Financial Officer and Finance Office by monitoring, preserving, and continuously improving the fiscal health of the University;
  • Serving as the University's Chief Financial Officer;
  • Creating and managing the university budget in collaboration with all institutional departments, programs, and leadership;
  • Leading/managing operational areas and/or units specific to facilities, human resources, and payroll operations;
  • Driving enhancements and improvements relative to revenue/expense management;
  • Providing initial approval for expenditures and asset allocations (i.e. computing resources, etc.)
  • Serving as lead project manager to monitor and drive completion to the University strategic plan and annual goals;
  • Identifying new business development initiatives locally, regionally, and nationally that will increase/enhance Saybrook's visibility and programmatic capacity;
  • Reviewing operational efficiencies and providing recommendations on appropriate alignment of resources;
  • Other duties as assigned


Position Requirements:
  • Cultivate a close working relationship with TCS Education System's Chief Financial Officer and Finance Office.
  • Possess reasonable skills in budget, finance, and operations.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial mindset that will drive innovation, development across the university;
  • Possess strong project management knowledge and ability to follow through on projects;
  • Develop and maintain positive, collegial relationships with all departments of the university;
  • Knowledgeable about best practices in human resources and payroll operations;
  • Provide, as directed by university president and/or Education System Chief Financial Officer, financial or other reports to University trustees;
  • Travel, as appropriate, to university campuses, Education System offices, and other locations, as appropriate.


Position Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field; or related experience; master's desirable.
  • Certifications in accounting, finance, and other areas a plus;
  • Ability/willingness to develop community-wide connections in collaboration with the president and administration of the university.
