The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) is seeking a Student Advisor to join its Online Campus team. This position is based on the Downtown Chicago campus.

The Student Success Counselor is responsible for providing a high level of service in support of students' persistence, satisfaction, and success. The Student Success Counselor helps students navigate The Chicago School's policies and procedures, ensuring a satisfying student experience from program start through graduation and beyond. The Student Success Counselor reports to the Associate Director of Advising Services. The Student Support Counselor works cooperatively with other student support peers and individuals in other administrative units including Academic Affairs, Student Finance, and Admissions. The Student Support Counselor must show a show a strong commitment to The Chicago School's mission, vision, and values.

Job Responsibilities

Student Support
  • Act as a central point of contact for students throughout their enrollment and beyond
  • Execute a communication strategy that ensures regular, timely contact with students in support of their persistence and success, especially in the first year of study
  • Support students' continued enrollment through course registration, evaluating program requirements, defining and interpreting academic policies, and assessing overall progress toward degree
  • Engage with the academic departments of assigned students including attending meetings and providing information, where needed
  • Coach students to use their strengths to achieve success while addressing opportunities for growth such as improving their time management and prioritization skills or building a support system
  • Provide high-level support for inquiries about career development, international education, and student finance
  • Support student engagement with the University through encouraging participation in and educating students on student organizations, professional development opportunities, and student employment
  • Work with students to gather outstanding admission contingencies including the Criminal Background Check (CBC) and immunization requirements, where applicable

  • Serve on institutional committees including but not limited to commencement, new student orientation, and welcome weeks
  • Adhere to all institutional, federal, state, and accrediting body policies and procedures
  • Work effectively in a team and in a fast-paced environment that is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Exercise independent judgment
  • Use effective critical thinking skills
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills including the ability to gather and analyze data and draw conclusions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain a professional, courteous demeanor at all times
  • Work experience in higher education student affairs or similar
  • Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations and statues governing post-secondary education
  • Knowledge of adult education theory
  • Knowledge of student support strategies and conflict resolution
  • One to three years of professional work experience in higher education student affairs
  • Earned master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field
