Position Summary

The Counselor Education Department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago campus, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor who typifies our engaged scholar- practitioner model of education to teach in our newly launched Clinical Mental Health Counseling program which began in Fall 2016, as well as teach in our existing Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision. For the Associate Professor level position we are looking for a senior counselor educator, dedicated scholar, who has direct leadership experience with the CACREP accreditation process, and eager to actively participate as a team player in the department and University communities. Candidates will also have an established record of contribution to the counseling profession at the state, regional, and/or national levels.

The successful candidate will be one who meets the qualifications to teach in a program that aligns with CACREP-accreditation standards and one who embodies a commitment to a collaborative work environment and have knowledge of the CACREP accreditation process. This person will bring evidence of successful counseling experience in mental health settings and possess the appropriate licensure (or license eligible in the state of Illinois) as a practicing counselor. In addition, this individual will convey enthusiasm for the counseling profession and a desire to instill a strong counselor identity in our students. This person must also have an established scholarly record of research and publications. This individual must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with those from socially, culturally, and economically diverse communities and will display a commitment to social justice. The position begins in August, 2017.

Principle Duties
  • Teach master's level and doctoral-level counseling courses and provide ongoing advising, chair dissertations, assist with admissions, and serve on departmental, campus as well as institutional committees;
  • Maintain active scholarship
  • Integrate technology into classroom instruction
  • Mentor a diverse student body on issues pertaining to their academic, clinical, professional, and scholarship development

Position Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have a minimum of six to eight years of teaching and clinical experience preferred. Individuals with counseling related degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 31, 2013.
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, community service, and diversity/social justice.
  • Expertise in one or more the following areas: research methods and statistics, counseling theory, career, assessment, psychopharmacology, and/or addictions/substance abuse.
  • Clinical and research expertise working with adults, children, and families.
  • Active national leadership within the American Counseling Association, and/or its divisions.
  • Direct experience with the CACREP accreditation process.
  • Active research agenda and display of scholarship engagement (publications).
  • Familiarity with prevailing online learning platforms (e.g., Canvas).
