Assistant/Associate Research Professor, Viticulture
This is a ranked (non-tenure-track) faculty position (100% research) in the Division of Plant Sciences, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, University of Missouri. The position is part of the Missouri Grape and Wine Institute (GWI), located on the MU campus in Columbia, MO. Available infrastructure and facility resources including three vineyards and a fully equipped laboratory as well as advanced analytical and winemaking capabilities through collaboration with enology faculty.
The faculty member will develop a nationally recognized viticulture research program that serves the needs of the grape and wine industry in Missouri and the surrounding region. The faculty member will work closely with the industry to prioritize viticulture research needs and conduct research that addresses those needs. The individual will work closely with other faculty and staff members in the GWI to meet challenges facing Missouri’s grape and wine industries. The successful candidate will also work as part of a highly collaborative team of University of Missouri faculty in areas that could include enology, plant physiology, plant pathology, entomology, weed science, chemistry, meteorology, soil science and others as appropriate. The faculty member is expected to secure external research funding from appropriate sources, publish research results in refereed journals as well as participate in professional meetings. The faculty member is expected to contribute to graduate education.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in viticulture or a closely related discipline. Students who have completed their PhD candidacy exams may be considered. Postdoctoral training and/or experience in viticulture research is highly desirable. An educational background and/or experience in enology as well as evidence of success in securing extramural grant support are desirable. Effective oral and written communications skills are required.
