This position is responsible for the management and advancement of a centralized internship program serving all majors.  He/she also assists in coordinating other experiential learning opportunities including job shadows, alumni mentoring, and grant funded opportunities.  This position contributes significantly to the educational and public relations objectives of the Hart Career Center.

DUTIES:
Program Administration and Development – Internship Program

  • Administers and expands the IWU Internship Program for all academic terms
  • Establishes a working relationship with local and regional organizations and businesses to develop new internship opportunities and manages current offerings.  Works to steadily increase the number and diversity of opportunities available to students with a particular view toward diversifying positions regionally, nationally, and internationally
  • Coordinates and assists students with application procedures and  monitors student progress during internship experience and conducts on-site visits with interns and supervisors
  • Assists with planning and carrying out  an annual Internship/Job Fair open to all students

    Information Management:
  • Maintains an updated database of internship offerings
  • Maintains a tracking system for student and sponsor participation


Career Counseling:

  • Advises students and alumni with career development issues
  • Advises students regarding experiential learning opportunities such as job shadows, informational interviews and connecting with alumni to assist them in career decision-making
  • Assists students with completing applications, writing resumes,  professional correspondence, and preparing for interviews
  • Presents seminars and outreach programs covering a variety of career-related topics
  • Helps interpret career assessments used to assist students in the career development process

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possesses a master’s degree
  • Has a background in counseling, student personnel, or related field
  • Has 5+ years of experience in university career services or comparable business background
  • You will have local and regional travel to develop and oversee student internship experiences
