ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR LEADERSHIP GIFTS AND PLANNED GIVING

ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR LEADERSHIP GIFTS AND PLANNED GIVING
The AVP for Leadership and Planned Giving will provide direct supervision for the strategic planning, programs and activities of the leadership gifts and gift planning departments and will assist the Vice President for Institutional Advancement on campaign operations efforts.
The AVP for Leadership and Planned Giving will help drive the comprehensive campaign efforts, including assisting in planning, management, and evaluation. This will include providing leadership and advice in the areas of prospect identification, strategy and clearance processes, and operational budget for the leadership and planned giving team. The AVP will also provide input and guidance regarding campaign budget. The AVP for Leadership and Planned Giving will also manage a minimal portfolio of principal and leadership gift prospects and donors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve a key role in building a pool of prospective donors with a cumulative capacity to suit the needs of Spelman College. This individual will work collaboratively with other units in IA to qualify and verify this pool of prospects.
• Track the moves management and progress toward annual and campaign fundraising goals for the division as a whole. Responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the prospect strategy and clearance process, including prospect identification, rating, research; assigning prospects to leadership gift and planned giving fundraisers; monitoring the size of prospect portfolios, all in collaboration with the Prospect Research and Leadership Gifts and Planned Giving teams.
• Drive the daily operations of the comprehensive campaign. Serves as a primary point of contact for day-to-day campaign questions. Monitors and reports campaign progress regularly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and others as needed.
• Maximize the work of staff fundraisers as well as the VP, President, Trustees and other volunteer fundraisers, by analyzing data and developing strategies for getting the ultimate gift, including optimal solicitation timing and pledge fulfillment.
• Ensure accurate forecasting and measurement of the effectiveness of the fiscal year and overall campaign progress.
• Staff Campaign Steering Committee and campaign volunteers as identified by and guidance given by the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
• Coordinate fundraising priorities, plans and activities across the Institutional Advancement (IA) division, and administrative divisions and academic departments campus-wide.
•Support the Vice President for Institutional Advancement in achieving divisional priorities and targets, consistent with the College’s strategic plan and campaign priorities.
•Supervise and motivate direct reports and several other indirect reports representing the individual leadership gifts and planned giving functions.
•Develop and track staff and volunteer fundraising progress, as well as campaign goal and pace reports.
•In partnership with prospect research, oversee and monitor all aspects of prospect identification, qualification, assignments and strategy development.
•Work with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (and the President and Board of Trustees as appropriate) in the recruitment and engagement of campaign volunteers, and solicitation of gifts. Regularly inform and involve the College’s senior and volunteer leadership in campaign activities, and accompany them on appropriate cultivation and/or solicitation calls.
•Implement the campaign plan, including monitoring fundraising priorities and targets.
•Oversee and implement daily campaign activities, working closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and other individuals as appropriate.
• Development and implement strategies to recruit retain and steward campaign leaders.
• Identify prospective donors to maximize gift potential for campaign priorities.
• Manage and report on the comprehensive campaign budget, and develop and gauge operational budgets for overall effective stewardship of fundraising resources.
• Work closely with the Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Services to develop the focus and agenda for monthly (or biweekly, if appropriate) Prospect Strategy Meetings, and update fundraising progress charts.
•Ensure smooth coordination of campaign activities with distinct timelines, deadlines and benchmarked goals.
•Partner with the Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Services to recommend and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to ensure that donors are appropriately acknowledged and stewarded.
•Participate in the development of accurate and compelling key fundraising messages.
•Represent Spelman College, and the on-going fundraising and campaign efforts, in local and national communities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of successful funding raising experience. Master’s degree a plus but not required. Prior experience with planning, executing and completing a capital or comprehensive campaign is strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people and organizations are essential. The incumbent must have excellent knowledge of financial accounting and reporting for private colleges, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in a strategic manner. Strong management abilities are also required.
Excellent oral communication skills are necessary for interaction with both internal and external constituents in one-on-one and/or group settings, must also possess strong public speaking and presentations skills. Excellent writing skills are required for writing and editing of proposals, reports and other documents necessary for the success of this position. Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as annual reports, business and accounting periodicals, and safety rules.
This position has supervisory responsibilities for one or more positions in the department. This does not include work study students.
Contributory responsibility for the College budget, i.e., review and monitoring of activity after the budget has been prepared.
