RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: The laboratory studies the mechanisms of injury and fibrosis in the liver and bile ducts. Methods used include cell culture, the study of human tissues, and the use of rodent models of disease. The research assistant generally will provide support to the PI and members of the lab in lab organization and in carrying out experiments, including experiment planning, data collection, and analysis. Lab organization duties will include routine ordering, recordkeeping, organizing and maintaining items and equipment in the lab, and serving as lab safety officer (keeping safety and training records, maintaining chemical inventory records, and assisting the PI in assuring compliance with safety regulations). Experimental duties will include carrying out experimental tasks including western blotting, immunostaining, and microscopy (involving cells, animal tissues, and human tissues) independently, with collection and analysis of data. The position also involves assisting with rodent work, including rodent breeding, tissue harvest, and recordkeeping. The employee will be taught to carry out rodent surgeries and will be expected to carry these out independently.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in biology, biochemistry, or bioengineering required, and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Some working experience in a biological laboratory is required. Experience with liver research and rodent handling is a plus. Experience with immunostaining, microscopy, and cell culture is also desirable.
