The University of Virginia and the School of Engineering and Applied Science seeks qualified candidates for a senior research scientist position for the research group of Prof. Arthur Lichtenberger in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Virginia. We are seeking a qualified candidate with expertise in the research and development of Nb and NbTiN electrodes with Al-oxide and AlN barriers, superconducting insulation superconducting (SIS) devices and fabrication technologies.
A Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, or the equivalent in training and/or experience required. Must be able to work in and help organize a small research group and meet project goal deadlines.

The candidate should have experience with contact photolithography, reactive ion etching, magnetron sputtering, reactive sputtering, Au plating, ellipsometry, SEM, AFM and wafer dicing. The principal scientist will be working primarily on the development of superconducting SIS devices, including THz mixers, using quartz and SOI architectures.
The Principal Scientist will interact with a wide variety of graduate students and staff. Communication skills and the ability to work well with other colleagues is therefore very important. Salary and benefits offered will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate.
